When you open our program you will see the main screen, where you can browse through previous shopping lists. Here is where you create a new shopping list based either on menu dates, a previous menu, recipes, or individual items. From this screen, you can also browse through MENUS, MEALS, RECIPES, or ITEMS (ingredients) by clicking on the buttons at the top right corner of your screen. You can also add new MENUS, MEALS, RECIPES, or ITEMS to your database.



MENUS... For years I have made a menu and then prepared my shopping list from my menu. MAKIN’ GROCERIES allows you to plan 3 meals per day and a snack in your menu. For me, a menu was the best way to stretch my food budget. Less trips to the store for forgotten items means money and time that I save!! You don’t want to create a menu? No problem! You can add recipes directly to your shopping list without creating a menu.

After planning my menu, I always dreaded pulling out the recipes and making tally marks as I counted how many eggs or cans of soup that I needed. With MAKIN’ GROCERIES once your recipe is in your database, you never have to look at the recipe again to make your shopping list. We will tell you how much is needed for each recipe you selected and give you the total amount. Items on the shopping list are sorted by store and location within the store making your time in the store more efficient. To learn more about the MENU setup, click here.



RECIPES... You can easily enter your own recipes in the database. To save time when getting started with the program, you can just enter ingredients for your favorite recipes so that the program can create your shopping list and later you can go back and enter the directions. MAKIN’ GROCERIES also allows you to print out a recipe, email a recipe, and import/export recipes.

In MAKIN' GROCERIES, you enter the ingredients you need for your recipes. You can enter generic items like green beans or be specific with name brands. The choice is yours. We tried to make MAKIN’ GROCERIES simple and easy to customize to your household. ITEMS are classified as (1) BUY - items you know you have to purchase every time you cook a recipe or (2) CHECK - items you may keep in your pantry, fridge, freezer, or stockpile that you need to check before adding to your shopping list. MEALS... Do you have meals that you prepare for your family that are the same every time? For my family, when I cook roast, gravy, and rice, they also expect to see green beans and biscuits on the table. You can create a MEAL such as “Roast/Gravy Plus” which includes all recipes and side items. Then when you enter the MEAL on your menu, you only have one entry and the program knows to include the WORKS on your shopping list. Please click here to learn more about MEALS.



SHOPPING LISTS... Shopping lists are my favorite part of the program. I love saving time by not having to pull the recipe every time I want to cook a recipe. I have the family favorites memorized but I still need to THINK through each recipe and add the items to my list. No more!!
